Coastal Defences, Royal Portrush Golf Club
The Brief
Clyde Shanks was appointed to advise Royal Portrush Golf Club on a planning strategy to secure further protection to its 5th green and 6th tee area. The existing coastal defence on Whiterocks beach has been in place since 1983 and has helped maintain the duneland and offset coastal erosion.
Our Role
We co-ordinated input from engineers RPS, ecologists STRI and Ecology Solutions, and prepared an Environmental Statement following scoping engagement with DAERA’s Marine and Fisheries Division.
The Outcome
We secured full planning permission from Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council, followed by a Marine Licence from DAERA’s Marine and Licensing Division. The extended armour was constructed in early 2024.
